Pastor Chip became a believer while preparing to enter law school after graduating from the University of Alabama. Prior to that, he played college soccer at UAB for three years. He turned down law school to enroll at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary where he received his Master of Divinity degree. He attained a Ph.D. in Theology from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He has trained pastors in Ecuador, Nigeria, Senegal, and Paris. He is a regular speaker at the global G3 Conference in Atlanta, GA, where he also serves on the G3 Board of Ministries. He served two churches in Kentucky before coming to FBC in 2012. He is married to Kerri Thornton. They have four children: Libby, Boaz, Titus, and Lazarus. He enjoys college sports (especially football) and coaching youth sports in our area.
